 Welcome to the 2023-2024 Season! 
Registration is now open to all athletes for our full year, indoor only, and cross country seasons.
Please check back March of 2024 for outdoor only season registration. 

1. FEES & MEMBERSHIPS

Athletes *must* hold a current Athletics Alberta membership in order to train with Edmonton Thunder.
​Memberships can be purchased through Athletics Alberta website. 
Registration for the 2023-2024 Season Will Open August 8!
We have caps on group sizes.  If the group you are applying for is full when you register please place yourself on the waitlist - available slots will be assigned based on waitlist priority and the waitlist can move quickly!

EDMONTON THUNDER REGISTRATION - Registration fees cover facility fees, administration costs, equipment, meet fees to our chosen meets (number of events may be limited), and coaching.

A. Registration

Full Year Registrations

September to July and includes base OR cross country season for September and October.  Athletes must declare either cross country or Base training for September and October.  We have separated the 2 training groups to avoid confusion and over working the athletes.

Junior - U12 and 1st year U14 (Birth Year 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) - $900
Development - 2nd year U14, U16, and 1st year U18 (Birth Year 2009, 2010, 2011) - $950
Senior - 2nd year U18, U20, and High Performance (Birth Year before 2008) - $1100

Cross-Country ONLY Registration

September and October
All Age Registration - $250

Indoor ONLY Registration

April to July

Senior - 2nd year U18, U20 (Birth Year before 2008) - $600

​B. COMPETITION UNIFORMS (SINGLETS)

Junior and Cross Country Athletes - Due to the short season of Cross Country and the rapid growth of Junior Athletes, the club will loan Cross Country and/or Junior Athletes a competition singlet for the season.  A deposit cheque of $75 is required for use of the team singlet. Singlets are borrowed prior to the first track meet and returned at the end of the season. Cheques will be returned or destroyed once the singlet is returned.  Singlets are required to participate in any sanctioned competition.

Development and Senior Athletes - The club will sell you a competition singlet for $75.  This is not included in the registration fees and can be added to your registration fees. If you would like to delay purchasing and getting a singlet to closer to competition season, those arrangements can be made. The singlet will be yours to keep, and you will receive a new singlet in the size you have requested.  The club will not purchase singlets back after the season; however, the club will not prevent you from selling the singlet to another athlete if you choose.

​C. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

Volunteer requirements include:

1. 2 Casino shifts on Casino years (2023 Casino will be in November)
2. a minimum of 1 full day or 2 half day track meets
3. a fundraising activity

D. CAPS & FUNDING

If the group you are applying for is full when you register please place yourself on the waitlist - available slots will be assigned based on waitlist priority. If you are applying through a third party for financial assistance please contact the treasurer to discuss registration process for subsidized athletes (all discussions will be confidential). 

​E. ATHLETICS ALBERTA ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP

In order to train with Edmonton Thunder, it is mandatory for your athlete to have a current membership with Athletics Alberta. You must purchase your athlete's membership directly through the Athletics Alberta website and keep it current for the entire season.

The annual membership is the best deal if you will be training most or all of the year. You will be responsible for renewing your athlete's AA membership each January. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian of the athlete to maintain the membership. If the membership is not renewed, your athlete will not be eligible to participate in any meets or practices.  

*If you are new to track and haven't signed up for an Athletics Alberta Membership, please wait until September 1st to sign up to avoid paying for the fall portion twice.

RENEWING AA MEMBERS

If you are not sure of your athlete's AA membership number or whether it is current, you can look up that information by following these instructions:

​1.Visit the AA website. 
2. Under membership type, select "Renewing member."
3. Use the "Look up" function.

NEW AA MEMBERSHIPS

Please visit the AA website and complete the form to obtain a membership. You will receive a membership number, which you will need to enter into the Edmonton Thunder registration system in order to complete your athlete's registration.

2. FUNDRAISING & VOLUNTEERING​

Participation in our volunteer events is mandatory for the families of our athletes. 

A. BI-YEARLY CASINO FUNDRAISER
​Edmonton Thunder has a casino slot every second year. In casino years, each athlete's family must work at least two shifts at the casino. There is no cash payment alternative: Volunteers must be provided, because we require the full complement of volunteers to meet our commitment to continue with the casino in the future. 

B. BI-YEARLY FUNDRAISER
​In non-casino years, our club holds a fundraiser. You will be required to participate as a member of Edmonton Thunder. Information will be available at registration.

C. TRACK MEET VOLUNTEER HOURS
Edmonton Thunder is required to provide volunteers from time to time to support Athletics Alberta track meets. Each family must work the equivalent of a full day (10 hours) at a track meet sometime throughout the year. The track meets operate entirely on volunteers, including officials. It is important that we fulfill our club commitment to ensure these meet opportunities continue to be available for our athletes in the future. Emails will be sent out requesting volunteers.

​NOTE: If a family has contributed significant hours to assisting the team (team parent, assistant coaching), coaches may deem that the track meet volunteering requirement has been fulfilled. Being a member of the Edmonton Thunder Board can also fulfill volunteer requirements.  ​​
