OUR ATHLETES AGE GROUPS

Edmonton Thunder focuses on athletes from ages 8 to 18. We offer opportunities to older athletes to continue with training and competition, and to pursue coaching certification.

Junior Training Group
Those born in 2013 through 2017

Our Junior Training Group is designed to help young athletes develop and enhance their running, jumping and throwing skills through engaging track and field activities. We are dedicated to teaching young athletes fundamental body movements through track and field based activities.

Development Training Group
Those born in 2010 2011 & 2012

Our Development Training Group is where athletes are able to work on specific track events to develop their existing movement skills. Whether you're a sprinter, jumper, hurdler, or thrower our program empowers athletes to choose the events they would like to train for while honing and developing their existing track skills.

Senior Training Group
Those born in 2009 or older

The Senior Training Group, where we'll help athletes advance their skills, and reach new heights. This group will guide you towards local, provincial, and national teams. Athletes will build the power and endurance needed to dominate the competition. Plus, more opportunities to travel and compete in various meets throughout the year.

Training Times & Locations

Practices will generally be held from 5:30 to 7pm at various central Edmonton Locations throughout the year.
We aim to keep our locations in central Edmonton, so that they are more accessible. 

Cross Country training for the fall season will generally be held at
Kinsmen Park or Cloverdale Hill on Tuesdays & Thursdays. 
Practices will begin August 20th and go through Provincial Championships November 2nd.

Base Season training for our Indoor Track & Field season we will generally be at
Kinsmen Park or Cloverdale Hill on Mondays and Wednesdays. 
​Practices will begin September 9th and stay outside until we move indoors.

Our Indoor Season training will be held at Kinsmen Sports Center Fieldhouse beginning in November.
Junior Group will train on Mondays & Wednesdays
Development Group will be held Monday Wednesday & Fridays
Senior Group will train on Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday
Athletes are not expected to be at every practice and can choose practice days that work with their schedule.
